The Bureau of Firearms serves the people of California through education, regulation, and enforcement actions regarding the manufacture, sales, buying, safety training, and transfer of firearms. Attending

First December one, 2021, applicants must electronically submit a Police Enforcement Release (LER) awarding for the return of firearm(s), ammunition, and/or ammunition feeding device(s) via the California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS). Applicants that do not already have a CFARS account will be required to create an account in social club to directly communicate with the Section and to bank check the condition of an awarding.

The Section will no longer accept newspaper LER application (BOF 119) submissions. Paper applications received via The states mail service, UPS, FedEx., etc., postmarked after November 30, 2021, will exist returned unprocessed with instructions on how to submit the application via CFARS.

"Other" Assault Weapon Registration

Penal Code section 30900, equally amended, required any person who, prior to September one, 2020, lawfully possessed an assault weapon as defined by Penal Code department 30515 subdivision (a) paragraphs (9), (10), and (11), and was eligible to register an attack weapon as ready forth in Penal Code section 30900, subdivision (c), to submit an application to the DOJ to annals the firearm earlier Jan i, 2022. Registration is now closed. UPDATE REGARDING Large CAPACITY MAGAZINES

On August 14, 2020, a three-gauge panel of the Ninth Excursion Court of Appeals affirmed the district court decision in Duncan v. Becerra. The appellate ruling does not lift the stay that California Chaser General Xavier Becerra secured at the commencement of the appeal. The stay remains in place until the appellate process is final. "(a) Except as provided in Commodity two (commencing with Department 32400) of this chapter and in Affiliate 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, whatsoever person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for auction, or offers or exposes for auction, or who gives, lends, buys, or receives any big-chapters magazine is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170."

"(b) For purposes of this section, 'manufacturing' includes both fabricating a magazine and assembling a magazine from a combination of parts, including, but not limited to, the torso, spring, follower, and floor plate or end plate, to be a fully functioning big-chapters magazine."

Firearms and Armament Purchaser Information

Nether Penal Code department 28220(f)(4), the Department of Justice (DOJ) has up to thirty days to complete background checks on firearms purchasers. Prior to the COVID-nineteen pandemic, DOJ typically completed these checks within Penal Code Department 26815(a)'s x-twenty-four hours waiting period. Law Enforcement Release (LER)

Pursuant to Senate Nib 746 (Stats. 2018, ch. 780), effective July 1, 2020, the Section of Justice (DOJ) is required to regulate the return of armament and ammunition feeding devices in the custody of a court or law enforcement agency. All individuals who wish to have the aforementioned items returned, must get-go receive approval from the DOJ.
